  • This position fulfills the purpose of an Electronic Hardware Development Engineer responsible for developing solutions in the design of electronic hardware and communication platforms for measurement products, inclusive of defining and developing system solutions based on existing standards and on market expectations.
  • Additional responsibilities include creation and/or modification of code and for assisting with the design of software in development of non-complex new products, as well as, redesign and refinement of existing products.
  • It includes answerability for the design and/or modification of new products, as well as, redesign and refinement of existing products.  Additional assignments may include responsibility for work on legacy products and product test fixtures as well as test stands.
  • The incumbent works with other designers (electronics hardware and software), may advise department interns and provides support to other electronic and software designers on technical issues. 
  • The degree of independence with which he / she is permitted to act will gradually be increased according to ability and length of time in the position. 
  • Responsibilities include ensuring that the product function and accuracy meet the specified requirements.


  • Work as directed by Engineering management in conjunction with the Chief Electronics System Architect on development and design of new products and updates to current products.
  • Assist and guide human factors engineering of electronic products.
  • Design work will be performed utilizing various CAD tools (inclusive of PCB layout) and engineering calculations.
  • Validation testing of design work to prove out concepts for either performance or manufacturability.
  • Create engineering specifications based on business input from Product Management.
  • Development of project schedules, working directly with department manager if schedules change to develop a plan to get tasks back on track.
  • Work with other departments to coordinate various aspects of the development process such as concept creation, assembly, test, etc.
  • Provide technical advice to other engineers on design related activities.
  • Evaluate and process engineering change requests from other departments outside of engineering.
  • Review of changes being processed by other engineers.
  • Perform or coordinate checking of electronics documentation.
  • Work with Senior Electronic Engineers, other design engineers, and/or vendors to insure adequacy of manufacturing drawings.
  • Communicate material and component requirements to Purchasing and/or vendors.
  • Communicate design specifications to Product Management.
  • Develop/work with Approvals Liaison(s) to ensure compliance with applicable codes.
  • Troubleshoot problems in the shop and the field as assigned.


  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology with four to five years of experience or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, microprocessor hardware design RTOS and embedded systems programming.
  • Knowledge of design and development of embedded microprocessors/FPGA’s.
  • Knowledge of PCB design software tools, Altium PCB Design Software a plus.
  • Knowledge of open source licensing, bootloaders, kernel configuration and object-oriented programming.
  • Familiarity with Linux, JavaScript, Python, C/C++, assembly language programming and communications protocols such as TCP, TCP/IP, HTTP, MODBUS, MQTT.
  • Knowledge of product certification (weights and measures and constructional / electrical safety) and awareness of auditing techniques and practices (for ISO compliance).  
  • Familiarity with TeamCenter and SAP a plus.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Word and Excel, analytical and logical reasoning.
  • A desire and ability to work in a team environment.
  • Work is performed primarily in an office or lab environment. 
  • During product witness testing or product testing there may be exposure to flow test lab conditions where there may be more significant temperature swings, higher level of noise and dust, and exposure to petroleum products. 
  • Occasional trips to sites where our equipment is installed, such as load racks, are required.  These sites tend to be noisy and subject to any weather condition.
  • Office and lab environments include long periods of sitting, use of computers, electronics devices such as Digital Multi-Meters, oscilloscopes and phones.
