Engineering Methods and Systems Principal Engineer and Application Manager

TechnipFMC Process Technology is seeking a candidate to be assigned to the Engineering Methods and Systems team and who would be responsible for providing technical management, leadership, and support to our engineering projects and disciplines and contribute to initiatives on the Engineering Methods and Systems team.   This candidate would be specifically assigned to manage the SmartPlant P&ID application and the admins and users that are associated with the application.

Primarily responsible for the management, leadership, deployment, support, customization development, and implementation of the tools and automation of work processes associated with the following systems of support to PT Houston projects and departments:

Engineering tools such as ABE, SPPID, SPI, SPEL, and/or 3D tools
Project Templates
Any other engineering design tools which are internally supported

Will assist with a wide variety of functions in the planning and design phases of projects: 

Working knowledge of business processes, system development, and process improvement
Managing small to mid-sized software implementation projects
Helping with implementing standard templates, policies and work processes
Collaboration and development of new templates, policies and work processes
Responds to standard requests from internal or external customers
Works on straightforward tasks and solves routine problems using established procedures
Working with wide variety of people, possibly in other offices, to identify support on projects or suggest new requirements and enhancements
Undertaking a variety of support related activities within the team
Applies basic technical skills and knowledge to complete assigned work
Manages own time to meet deadlines set by others
Work is subject to review by others
Depends on others for instruction, guidance and direction 
Develops knowledge and skills in basic practices and procedures within own area

Is responsible for managing EMS discipline budget and staffing on one or more projects.

Is responsible for supervising time of 1-5 individuals, as well as contributing to performance reviews of those individuals.

Is responsible for generating innovative solutions to unpredictable problems to achieve project and department objectives.


  • The position requires a minimum of an engineering bachelor’s degree (software, chemical, mechanical engineering degree preferred) with 10-15 years experience in either software and/or engineering projects.
  • Applicant should have significant experience in either Aspen Basic Engineering and/or Smart Plant P&ID, including admin experience.
  • Applicant should have significant experience in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, Word, and Powerpoint.  Any graphics design, CAD, and/or programming skills in VBA and .NET are an asset.
