Job description

As part of the development of the Multidisciplinary Section "Materials and Welding", we are looking for a Senior NDE Engineer/Specialist (F/M). On behalf of the Engineering Division, during the FEED and EPC phases of Onshore/Offshore Projects, the Candidate will perform activities related to Non-Destructive Examination applied to onshore/offshore structures, power and process piping, pressure vessels, heat exchangers and other equipment/packages.

Duties and responsibilities

Reporting to the Lead Materials, the NDE Specialist shall ensure that the Sub-contractors (Vendors/Yards) provide and maintain the technical integrity of all welded fabrications.

As a Specialist on major contracts, your main duties will be the following:

  • Participate to technical meetings (KOM, PIM, etc) and audits worldwide with our Clients, Partners and Sub-contractors
  • Review Client and/or Partners specifications and prepare project specific deliverables
  • Manage the review of Sub-contractor’s technical documentation for which the Candidate is responsible during EPC phases
  • Respond to Client technical inquiries (ensure the contractual requirements are taken into account)
  • Manage work time budgets and progress
  • Report to the Lead Materials
  • Ease Interface communication with other Disciplines including technical support on NDE disciplines during commercial clarifications
  • Perform expediting visits to Sub-contractor’s premises (Vendor/Yard) including spot NDE inspection supervision.

As part of the development of the “Materials & Welding”, the Candidate will also participate to the Discipline Technical Referential improvement (Templates, Guidelines, Reports, Feedbacks, etc.).

The Candidate shall demonstrate his experience and competence as follows:

  • Knowledge of relevant design and fabrication codes for pressure vessels, piping and structural fabrication and applicable NDE standards such as ASME, EN, ISO, GOST, AWS, ASTM, , etc.
  • Preparation of NDE specifications to be attached to the Material Requisitions
  • Subcontractor conventional NDE (RT, MT, PT, VT) as well as advanced UT (PAUT/TOFD) procedure review and comments, including demonstration check on UT calibration blocks for qualification/validation of the UT inspection. Interpretation and evaluation of NDE records and PAUT/TOFD results
  • Familiarity with typical fabrication documents such as: drawings, ITP (Inspection and Test Plan) and FQCP (Fabrication and Quality Control Plan)
  • Attendance to technical meetings and visits, i.e. Kick-Off Meeting, Pre-Inspection Meeting, Expediting Visits, when required by Project
  • Technical support for NCR resolution
  • Support the Quality Control Leads and Construction Managers
  • Provide on-site assistance to resolve Yards/Vendors technical issues relating to NDE
  • Capable of identifying problem areas early and proactively resolving issues
  • Interfacing with engineering, vendors and construction contractors timely and with proactive attitude

You are meant for this role if you have/ are:

  • A minimum of fifteen (15) years’ experience and field practice as Level II/III in NDE methods (UT/RT/MT/PT/VT) including advance UT (TOFD and PAUT) in the Petrochemical and/or Oil & Gas industries. Other relevant experiences in other industrial sectors may be considered. You have a solid knowledge of engineering, manufacturing and fabrication processes for all types of contracts and you are capable of team working and coordination.
  • Ideal candidate must hold a valid:
    • ISO/COFREND Level III certification for volumetric (RT, UT including TOFD) methods AND
    • a minimum ISO/COFREND Level II for surface (VT, MT, PT) methods.
  • If relevant, you will have the opportunity to pass a Level III certification as part of your career progress.
  • A Graduate degree equivalent to a Bachelor of Science is preferred, however Undergraduate diplomas may be considered as suitable depending on the relevant experience and background of the candidate.
  • Self-managing, dynamic and responsive, you can communicate efficiently and have excellent coordination and team working skills in a multi-cultural environment of international welding & NDE specialists. You are a good listener and advisor, you can analyse and summarize, your decision-making and negotiation skills will ensure you successfully assume your responsibilities.
  • Written/spoken French and English at fluent level are necessary, and you are available to complete short assignments abroad.
  • Would be a plus: Good knowledge of welding process technology and experience in field construction. Relevant certification ISO/COFEND for other NDE methods (such as AE, EC).
