The function of this position is to support Surface purchasing activities.


The key elements of this position will include:

  • Knowledge in Planning and understanding of MRP (SAP) demands

  • Direct responsible for purchase of direct parts

  • Understanding of procedures / processes, specification and Incoterms

  • Identifies and realizes cost savings opportunities

  • Manage Price Variance versus budget, standard and last purchase

  • Develops supplier relationships and track performance

  • Collaborate with Global Sourcing & Procurement (GSP) Category Managers

  • Support operational effectiveness





  • Have worked in a manufacturing environment

  • 3 - 5 years purchasing/materials management experience with a minimum of 3 years in purchasing

  • Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Manufacturing

  • Must demonstrate strong negotiation, planning and interpersonal skills in order to interact with co-workers and suppliers in a team-oriented environment.

  • Excellent negotiating skills and interpersonal skills.

  • Good written and verbal communications.

  • Microsoft PC skills required and versatile in handing data

  • Understand Materials Requirement Planning (MRP)

  • Have experience in SAP will be an advantage

  • Proactive & willing to learn

  • Willing to accept role rotation within Materials Management as and when needed.

  • Willing to perform overtime as and when needed




Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Execution of purchasing activities.

  • Reviews and improves purchasing processes

  • Manages supplier relationships.

  • Performs RFQ (Request For Quote) evaluation.

  • Ensure adherence to principles, policies and standards to improve safety, quality and process reliability in a cost-effective manner.

  • Facilitates communications, problem resolution and provides appropriate feedback, both positive and corrective within the team.

  • Identifies and realizes cost savings opportunities to achieve yearly cost reduction targets.

  • Work with purchasing team to meet positive PPV (purchasing price variance).

  • Develop supplier delivery performance and manage suppliers’ capacity constraints.

  • Collaborate with global sourcing management team for successful execution of purchasing activities.

  • Manage supplier key performance index (KPI)
