Production Control Planner

We are looking for an experienced Production Control Planner who can join our team in Houston, Texas. As a Production Control Planner activities correspond to the short term planning processes that start with the shop floor receiving demand to execute orders.  Production Planning ownership starts with the management of this demand, proceeds through creation and release of orders to the floor, and continues through to the delivery of those orders to stock. Production Planners are responsible for internally executed production orders and in some cases subcontracted items as well

Job description
  • It is required intense communication, strong discipline and ability to re-plan or react against unpredicted situations that occur during the internal production execution, being responsible and/or accountable for: Manage master data for internally produced materials
    • Evaluate short term demand vs capacity
    • Analyze component shortages
    • Convert planned orders in firm production orders
    • Manage production orders
    • Manage exception messages for production orders
    • Perform work in process (WIP) counts
    • Manage shop floor rework
    • Manage ECN processing for production orders
    • Manage ECN implementation for internally produced materials
  • Review and approve any material master extension or any material master change in ERP system for internally produced materials and subcontracted orders.
  • Evaluate demand against capacity to determine the scheduling sequence of open production orders, as well as the planned orders that will soon be converted to production orders.
  • Prepare and publish forward looking forecast with all open production orders and all planned orders that consume capacity during this period.
  • Identify all missing parts for the planned orders to be converted within the forward looking period, addressing these shortages with the Material Planners, and Keeping the Delivery Planner and Master Schedulers informed of associated risks.
  • Convert planner orders into production orders, setting the baseline finish date, according to MRP calculation and the understanding of the current scenario at the shop floor, the most realistic expectations about order schedule
  • Develop contingency plans to orders that miss available capacity or components, yet needing to be converted
  • Ensure open production orders are kept current with regards to their various inputs and outputs, such as time confirmations, order status, changes in basic finish dates
  • Identify and mitigate any exceptions to the plan established for internally produced materials and subcontracted materials under their responsibility, interacting with shop floor personnel, manufacturing engineering teams and materials planners to define countermeasures, keeping master schedulers and subsystem planners informed about any identified risks
  • Physically count the production orders under their responsibility, informing location and progress status for the orders
  • Manage the impact of non-conformances that require in-house rework activities
  • Manage the impact of engineering changes into planned orders and open production orders, working in conjunction with manufacturing Engineering and shop floor management to ensure these materials are identified and segregated until the required changes are implemented
  • Implement, according to the need date for the materials, all engineering changes that are executed with the use of internal resources through production orders

You are meant for this job if

  • High School Education required at minimum, BS/BA in Business, or Supply Chain Management (Equivalent relevant experience may be considered)
  • APICS CPIM Certification highly desired, but not required
  • 3+ years of relative experience, in planning, scheduling and /or manufacturing environment
  • Work environment Both Office related activities and shop floor visits to check on orders or to meet with the manufacturing teams.
