DEPARTMENT: 
Reports to the Subsea Manager, in our UCOS business unit in Irvine, California, USA 
POSITION PURPOSE:  
The UCOS business unit develops control system software and solutions for energy, infrastructure and manufacturing. 
 
The project engineer is responsible for working with our customers to design solutions to control, monitor and automate their industrial processes. On the senior level it is expected to demonstrate the ability to manage customer expectations and product quality from tendering through life of the field. This includes design and configuration of control systems of varying complexity and coaching peers in good design and better practices. The candidate must demonstrate process and project management skills to function effectively with customers, peers and the product development team. 
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:   
  • 7+ years of experience within configuration and design of industrial control systems on the hardware, software or modelling side 
  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher within Cybernetics, Mechatronics, Chemical, Electrical, Computer Science or equivalent, with focus on industrial process control 
  • Design, review and implement both the software and hardware components of a control system from instrumentation to the operator HMI 
  • Understand dynamics within linear and non-linear systems in general, but upstream oil and gas processes in special 
  • Understand pros and cons of industrial protocols and how they are used 
  • Understand basic skills within networking and the Windows and Linux operating systems 
ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: 
  • Read and review P&IDs and system schematics 
  • Design, read and implement control system function block logic 
  • Drive towards automation of tasks and processes 
  • Implement safe design and system user friendliness 
  • Experience in using textual or visual coding languages 
  • Experience with working with vendor and follow up deliveries 
  • Energetic and highly organized capable of working independently in a fast-paced environment and support a variable work flow 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in English 
 
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, listen and speak for long periods of time 
  • Manual dexterity using hands, fingers, and arms to push, pull, reach, grab, hold, and lift 
  • Wear steel toe shoes, safety glasses and other personal protective equipment as needed 
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds 
  • Frequent use of PC 
  • Close visual acuity is required to perform activities such a viewing computer screens and reading 
  • Global travel to remote areas, onshore and offshore 
  • Must be able to pass designated offshore medical physical exam or possess current medical 
  • Must be able to pass designated offshore survival examinations or possess current offshore survival certification 
  • May be required to take relevant qualified screening and be subject to random alcohol / drug testing requirements
